EU approves US$20m aid package for Zim

04 September 2010: HARARE – The European Union (EU) has approved a €16 million (US$20.4 million) aid package to assist Zimbabwe cope with the impact of the global financial crisis and economic downturn.

While SADC heads of state and government meet in Windhoek this week, civil society organisations from the region are also holding a two-day meeting in Windhoek called ’The SADC People’s Summit’.

The two-day event started yesterday and is organised by the Southern African People’s Solidarity Network (SAPSN).

More than 350 representatives of grassroots movements, community-based organizations, and faith based organizations, women’s organizations, labor, students, youth, economic justice and human rights networks and other social movements met in Windhoek, Namibia on 15-16 August at the sixth SADC People’s Summit organised by the Southern Africa Peoples’ Solidarity Network (SAPSN), supported by the local host organization NANGOF Trust.
