Eurozone crisis may affect Zim

ECONOMISTS have expressed fears the credit crunch sweeping across a number of European countries will affect Zimbabwe's economic growth momentum and slow down the rebound that characterised the last three years. Zimbabwe has enjoyed phenomenal economic growth since dollarisation in February 2009, but a combination of the eurozone crisis and a myriad of domestic economic and political issues could reduce the boom.

World Bank warns developing world to prepare for shocks

The World Bank has warned developing countries they need to be prepared for shocks as global economic growth slows. The organisation has slashed its growth forecasts, and is now predicting a 0.3% contraction for the eurozone in 2012.

India moots $100m line of credit

India has promised to give Zimbabwe $100 million in lines of credit following a visit by the Asian country’s Commerce minister Anand Sharma. The loans are aimed at improving health infrastructure and reviving the textile sector.

Call to audit Zimbabwe’s $7bn debt

International civic society organisations have urged financial lenders to investigate how Zimbabwe accumulated the $7 billion debt to the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
This comes against a backdrop of reports that some of the money could have been used by the then Zanu PF government to fund political repression.

BRICS ready to help euro zone via IMF - Russia
